Making modern workhouse dolls

Hannah Jackson, Norfolk Museum Service’s Western Area Manager, is also a talented doll maker. Inspired by the workhouse dolls in the Gressenhall collection which depict a young girl inmate, an older female inmate and a nurse she began to wonder what a modern set of Gressenhall workhouse dolls would look like. Which staff or volunteers or visitors would she depict? Starting with a Skills for the Future trainee she began to create these wonderful modern takes on the idea. She has just completed her second doll – this time an enactor in costume as a workhouse inmate. We hope Hannah will agree to display these amazing creations (and perhaps a few more?!) in our October exhibition. Thanks for sharing them with us Hannah.
